The National Radio Astronomy Observitory Very Large Array, one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories, consists of 27 huge but moveable radio antennas, placed along railroad tracks in a Y-shaped configuration on the Plains of San Agustin fifty miles west of Socorro, New Mexico. The dishes are famous within the astronomy community, but probably best-known in the general public for their key role in the movie ?Contact.? Courtesy of the New Mexico Department of Tourism.
